13 March 2026
The startup, founded by two USI alumni, Nicola Scarinzi and Manuel Bonù, has been selected among the top 10 climate software companies in Europe by Energy Tech Challengers, one of Europe’s leading climate tech startup competitions. DEC Energy enables businesses to contractualise solar installations and generate their own Guarantees of Origin (GOs), certificates that verify energy comes from renewable sources.
Energy Tech Challengers is the European competition that identifies and showcases the most innovative startups within the climate tech ecosystem. Selected from hundreds of applications submitted from across the continent, DEC Energy earned its place in the Climate Software track, which highlights digital platforms that enable and accelerate the energy transition.
The startup, currently incubated at USI Startup Centre, has developed a platform that allows businesses to access solar energy production and generate their own Guarantees of Origin (GOs), certificates that verify that electricity comes from renewable sources. By enabling companies to participate directly in renewable energy generation, DEC Energy transforms Scope 2 emissions compliance from a recurring cost into a potential financial opportunity. At the same time, solar farm operators can obtain upfront liquidity while retaining ownership of their assets.
On 15 and 16 April 2026, at the Energy Tech Summit in Bilbao, Nicola Scarinzi will take the stage in front of more than 1,500 participants to present how profitable sustainability works, bringing Swiss innovation into the leading forum of European energy innovation.
Addressing the climate challenge requires business models that combine environmental impact with economic incentives for companies. This recognition confirms that DEC Energy’s platform can turn sustainability into an economic advantage for corporate clients.
